PC Tune-Up

  1. Turn on Firewall – using the built-in Windows Firewall
  2. Install Anti-Virus – download “AVG Free” at:

  3. Install Anti-Spyware – download Spybot Search & Destroy at:

  4. Install Anti-Adware- download Lavasoft Ad-Aware at:

  5. Remove Unused Programs - Remove using the Uninstall tool in the Start menu. If that is not available, go to Start -> Control Panel -> “Add or Remove Programs” and select the programs you want to remove.
  6. Run Disk Cleanup - This is built into Windows. Go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup.
  7. Consolidate Your Documents into the “My Documents” Folder - The My Documents folder is the default location for Documents, Pictures, Music and Videos.
  8. Defragment Your Hard Drive This will eliminate unused space on your hard drive and it will run faster. Go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter.
  9. Clean Up your Start Up - Turn off unnecessary programs from starting up when you turn on your computer. Go to Start -> Programs -> Startup and remove most of these programs.
